Reporter: Looking back at your personal experience, I want our audience to know who you are and what prompted you to start this company?

Ren Zhengfei: Actually my history is divided into two sections. First, survive in the system of planned economy. Before the great disarmament, I served in the army and planned the economic system. In this system, I am an associate engineer. But suddenly the great disarmament, we were collectively laid off and thrown into the ocean of market economy.

Second, the market economy system. At that time, I didn’t understand what the market economy was. For example, if I bought this item for 10 yuan, how can I sell it for 12 yuan? Is this not a liar? At that time, our thoughts were still in the middle of the ban, and we were drowning in the sea, and we trusted the people. When I was working in a small company, the money was deceived. Then I went to pursue the money, and I didn’t have the money to ask a lawyer. I study the law myself, become a lawyer myself, and read the world's legal books.

I realized that the market economy is two things, one is the source of goods, the other is the customer, and the transaction between the two is the law. I can never master the customer. What I can master is the source of supply. What I can obey is the law. This is the motivation for us to do research and development. We must study the goods and earn money from customers through legal trading methods.

Just after China’s open reforms, intellectual youth were allowed to return to the city, and the government could not arrange work for them, allowing them to sell large bowls of tea and sell steamed buns. In Shenzhen, some people are allowed to be technology companies. I want to give it a try and start Huawei. It was forced by life, there was no way to go, and Huawei was founded. Reporter: What do you think is the essence of Huawei's management philosophy and management thinking?

Ren Zhengfei: Huawei has no philosophy. I personally have not studied philosophy, nor have I read the philosophy book seriously. I think that if Huawei has a philosophy, it is "customer-centric, creating value for customers." Because the money is in the customer's pocket, to make the customer willing to give you the money, you must provide good goods and provide him with the services he needs.
